I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4

I’m afraid sometimes.

I know it’s not good for me, and even sometimes sinful, and I’m working on that. But I often find myself paralyzed by fear: fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear for my families safety.

So often these fears are based on lies—things that aren’t true or things that wouldn’t happen even if they were true. But sometimes they’re rooted in truth as well; there are real reasons why we should be afraid. Common sense should dictate that we wear seatbelts, sunscreen, and even be wary of others.

So how do we overcome our fears?

How do we stop letting them hold us back?

In this post, we’ll look at some passages from Scripture that give us hope when we’re feeling overwhelmed by fear so that no matter what kind of fear you’re facing right now: whether it’s something small like anxiety about an upcoming test or something bigger like abandonment by someone who was supposed to love you forever—you have access to God’s deliverance through His Word!

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. – Psalm 34:18

In Psalm 34:18, the Lord is said to be near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

The psalmist is saying that when we are troubled and burdened with fear, it will not be long before our prayers are answered by God who delivers us from all our fears.

Many times throughout the Psalms, we hear David crying out in fear to God. David had a lot to fear. His life was wrought with death, hurt, and betrayal. But even in David’s deepest and darkest times, he would call out to God and ask for deliverance.

We should often seek David’s wise council in the Psalms to find out how to be a “man after God’s own heart”.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4

You are not alone. God is always there for you, and he is always listening to your prayers. He can help you with your fears, and he can deliver you from all of them.

However, Psalm 34:4 isn’t a guarantee that we’ll never have any fear.

But this is a promise!

When we fear, not if, but when, if we seek the Lord, He WILL deliver us from our fears.

The key here is to understand that fear is a natural human emotion. Fear by itself isn’t a sin. However, when we become so fearful and anxious that we let those feelings cloud our faith in God, that’s when it becomes a sin.

Understanding this, and realizing when fear is getting the best of us, is our most powerful ally in the continual effort to fight fear and ask the Lord for deliverance.

God can deliver you from all your fear

Fear is the opposite of faith. Fear is a spirit that robs, kills and destroys. It brings bondage to your life. Listen to Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 1:7-8:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear (timidness), but of power, love and self-discipline.”

If you are ever going to enjoy freedom from fear, you must realize that fear is a spirit that robs, kills and destroys; it brings bondage to your life.

overcoming fear

We can all overcome our fears by seeking God and His Word.

Remember that God has a plan for your life and he wants you to be free from all the things that keep you from Him.

Seek Him first, then all these other things will fall into place as well.
