Daily Devotion – Too Busy In Life

Live Intentionally

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

I am constantly busy or distracted. My mind is left wandering in fifty directions, and I feel tied to my obligations. What keeps me from present living?

I asked someone recently why they chose certain things in their life when they knew that God had something better for them, something more fulfilling. They chose work over time with their family. They chose their phone over present living. They chose, “just enough” over and over again. They responded that they didn’t know why they were settling for mediocre. It isn’t like mediocre is that enticing. Yet, IT IS.

“…like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”- C.S Lewis.

When it comes to our spiritual growth, we are far to easily pleased. When it comes to living radically for God, we are far to easily pleased. When it comes to our prayer life, we are far to easily pleased.

Maybe its just me, but the hum-drum of life can get so overwhelming that I would way rather settle for mediocre. What do I mean?

I mean its far easier to choose the T.V over time with God. It is far easier to stay distracted then deal with my present circumstances. It is far too easier to settle for disconnected in my marriage, then intentional.

Yet, God tells us that if we live intentionally, we WON’T regret it.

“Write out your prayer requests; don’t mindlessly drift through life on the American narcotic of busyness. If you try to seize the day, the day will eventually break you. Seize the corner of his garment and don’t let go until he blesses you. He will reshape your day.” Paul E. Miller
