“Ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened unto you.” Matthew 7:7 NIV

We often hear people quote this verse, but many times the way in which it is quoted is not exactly the way Jesus intended. We hear, “Ok God, where is my new car? I asked for it…where is it?” or “I asked for lots of money, but I’m still broke.”

Full Understanding of this Verse

It  took me awhile to come to a full understanding of this verse myself, although I have always believed it, because it comes from the Word and the Word is TRUTH. The Lord loves us. He wants to give us “exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20

This is a promise that He, the Lord our God, creator of the universe, has made His children. But, we must be in a relationship with Him, we have to allow Him to do His work in us. Not only should we be led by the Holy Spirit, but we must also let our life become a life in Christ Jesus.

If you look back at Matthew chapter 6, verse 33, it says, “Seek ye the kingdom and all His righteousness and these things will be added unto you.”

Fill yourself with the Holy Spirit, read His word daily, and pray about everything. Talk to Him about all that you have going on, talk to Him about your fears, your doubts, talk to Him as if you were talking to your best friend, because in reality, that’s exactly what you’re doing.

Ask Seek Knock

Sometimes we are unsure of what we want in life or how to attain the goals that we have set for ourselves. It’s not so much that getting to know Jesus changes what we want, it’s just that it enables us to want to succeed at things we were meant for all along, but we were trying so hard to do it all on our own without Him. That’s where our hopes and dreams can sometimes become a bit distorted.

  • Ask – God to be your Lord and Savior
  • Seek – Him and His righteousness
  • Knock – on the door that God has ready to open for you. It’s only through Jesus that we can know which door that is.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you want so much to give us the desires of our hearts and thank you for showing us the right way to succeed in all that we can. And most of all, Lord God, thank you for your love. In Jesus name. Amen.
