Daily Devotion – Losing Sight of God

Do Not Be Discouraged

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-7

Losing Sight

It surprises me how quickly I go from thoughts of the spirit to thoughts of the flesh in my day to day life. One day I am surrendering it all to the Lord, the next day I am starting to wander down the road of despair. I’m wondering why God’s plan is taking so long, and why he’s not providing things in my timing.

What changed? I took my eyes off the prize for two days and my mind is being taken over by fleshly thoughts! When I was surrendering to the Father every morning, I was experiencing “life and peace”. As soon as I let my guard down, Satan whispered, “Why is God taking so long?” “Why do you have to do all the surrendering.” “You must be exhausted.”

It reminds me about how important it is to live every single day submitting to the Lord by prayer, studying Scripture, memorizing Scripture, listening to Christian music, and attending Bible study/church.

How easily we lose sight of our God.

You’re Not Alone

If you are feeling run down you’re not alone. “Oh Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you.” (Psalm 38:9)

The Bible is full of stories of amazing characters that wavered in their dependence on God! It shows us how human we are! Be encouraged for he desires for us to live a life of peace continually. He gives us all the tools!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is purse, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Be not dismayed and don’t lose hope instead, “…press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14)

Did you take a step back? Don’t worry. God is thrilled to take you by the hand and encourage you to move forward.
