So, here’s the backstory. Ahab, king of Israel, partners up with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, to attack a common enemy. Ahab (not a godly guy) is asked by Jehoshaphat (a very godly guy) to seek the counsel of a prophet of the Lord before they follow through with their planned assailment. However, this suggestion is met with resistance because Ahab has concluded that everything the prophet of the Lord has spoken to him is worthless because it has never been favorable from his perspective. In other words, since he hasn’t liked the previous advice, he doesn’t want to seek it out.

I wonder if there are any of us reading this who can relate to king Ahab. It’s not that we deny the existence of God. It’s not even that we question the authenticity of the Bible. Above everything else, it is that we don’t like what the Book says. It asks things of us that are difficult to do and can oftentimes be tough to understand. We live in the modern world and the Bible is an ancient book. Whenever we seek advice from it, it tells us what we know is true, but not always what we want to hear.
I want to encourage you today to go all in, to have faith even when it is challenging. To completely trust the Lord, even when He tells us something that makes us uncomfortable or offends our flesh. I pray that we would be so bold that we fully accept the Word of God even when it tells us something we don’t like or don’t especially want to hear.
