In the summer of 2017, our state was on fire. It did not gain much national attention until an iconic chalet burned in one of our national parks. By that time, thousands of acres had burned and countless people evacuated from their homes. I was one of them.
I felt so alone, as my husband was traveling for work. I had sought asylum with dear friends from church, but I still had a lonely ache in my heart. As I sat in their family room one morning, I reflected on the Psalm that was printed on their wall – Psalm 121:1-2. The Lord had brought me there to refresh and strengthen my weary soul.
I realized I wasn’t alone; I had my dear brother and sister in Christ, but more importantly, I had Jesus Himself! I could lift my eyes to the mountains and see nothing but smoke from the fires, and at night, perhaps the flames that consumed the trees. BUT GOD…… I could lift my heart to Him and cry out for comfort. Although I had been saved and washed in His righteous blood, I needed saving from the fear and loneliness of the moment.
Lift Your Eyes
I could lift my eyes and worry at the sight of homes, trees and wildlife being destroyed, or I could lift my eyes and see the LORD, Who made all things.
“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads. because your redemption draws near.” Luke 21:28 NKJV
“To you I lift up my eyes, O You Who are enthroned in the heaves!” Psalm 124:1 NASB
“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His lovingkindness is everlasting!.”Psalm 118:1
Who do you lift your eyes to when you are weary of soul? Lift them to the One Who is our strength and shield, Who washes our sins away as well as our fears.
Lift up your eyes and give your all to Jesus.
