Daily Devotion – Learn How To Follow His Voice

Living In Truth

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5 NKJV

Learn How To Follow His Voice

I love to talk. I use to love to tell everything. As a kid, I once I told my mother about her disastrous Christmas gifts from my father! I also told her about the surprise birthday parties he planned. My mother hates surprises. But as I got older I learned when to tell and when to be quiet. It’s called growing up.

I realized that telling everything wasn’t always in my best interest. I learned that telling God what he wanted to hear didn’t always work for me either. I would get myself into a mess, then swear on my life I would never do it again. I lied to God. And I kept doing it. I allowed myself to get in yet another mess until I grew spiritually.

I learned not to make promises I couldn’t keep.

I quickly learned how not to get caught up with other people’s foolishness.

I began to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and not make decisions on my own.

You see, my decisions were not aligned with God’s will for my life. At times, I would hear the voice and decided I knew myself better than that still small voice. So when my plan blew up in my face I had the nerve to be angry.

Why was I angry?

It was my fault and I knew it. I had gone against God’s leading so it should not have been any surprise that I ended up in a mess. But each time it happened I would be upset with myself.

God doesn’t need our promises. He’s not the deal maker; He is not on the show “Let’s make a deal”. He already loves us. He’s already given us the prize of salvation. All we have to do is serve him. He has given us his word as a guide. He has shared many examples in the Bible of people who choose their will and not his will and their lives ended up in a mess. He has always given us many examples of people who followed his word, and his voice and how he delivered.

Take a page out of the book of Paula. Live every day in honesty and truth. It will save you a lot of headaches.

Don’t let others define who you are. Live your truth daily. Living a lie can break you. Don’t be afraid to tell others who you are and who you are not.

God has not given us fear but of sound minds. Listening to the voice of God becomes easier as you read his word. You begin to fully trust his voice. We are his sheep and as you spend time with him you will become more aware of his still small voice.

Take the time today to read his word, spend some quality time with him.

Walk in Faith, my friends.
