In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord ; Make His paths straight.’” Matthew 3:1-3

If you’ve ever seen a rap concert,a good one, the main artist generally has a hypewoman/man. They’re someone who’s there to hype the crowd up, insert forgotten lyrics, edify the star and just be a general catch all.

John goes from chaperone to hypeman for Jesus. John prepared the world for the arrival of Christ in the wilderness. Preaching of the coming Savior and what He would do.

Today you and I are the hypecrew. We’re sent to give God His props. And not just in the form of kicking scriptures or keeping a Bible on our dashboard either.

We hype up employers, brands, food, our appearances multiple times a day without a second thought. Like John, we can keep growing to a place where we do it instinctively versus intentionally.

Other ways to hype Him up would be praying for those we see hurting, inserting what God has done in your life the next time someone asks how you achieved a goal or even being seen in a faith based shirt while exhibiting behavior that is Christ like.

It seems society has conditioned us to avoid offending anyone, except God. The world will never experience how real the hype is if we don’t amplify the volume.

This is part 2 of the John the Baptist series. Read part 1 here.
