Day Three: The Waiting

Oh the waiting…..The word waiting makes me cringe some days. We have waited a long time to see this child’s face. I have waited since my early twenties, and still we wait. One of my favorite quotes from C.S. Lewis during this time has been, “That I am sure that God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait”.

My God knows my child and knows us, and most of all knows the exact time our paths need to cross. Some days the wait seems just so very long and daunting, like standing at the end of a hallway that never seems to end. My lessons during the wait have been numerous.

I am not a patient person, or at least I wasn’t until the last several years of this journey. My banner verse has been…Be still (put your name here) and know that I (not you) am God Psalms 46:10 NIV.

There have been days that I have run crashing through the doors of His throne room, upset and disappointed. I have fallen straight to my knees in front my King, the only One who can help. I can almost assure you that some of you will have days like this. But we have a promise that He bends down to listen when we pray….Isn’t that amazing?!

Picture this: He could hear my footsteps running down the palace halls and KNEW they were my footsteps. He knows what I am upset about before I even come to Him. And He is DELIGHTED that I have run to Him for comfort.

I am a very private person who does not readily confide in anyone. I do not readily accept help or share my feelings. I have learned a very important lesson about faith and trust in our wait. He has slowly taught me I can do nothing to help our situation apart from Him.

Over the years, God has proven Himself faithful and trustworthy. He is so good. He is the absolute best comforter and peace-giver. BUT, you have to lay your worries and cares at His feet….and NOT pick them back up.

When you scream at the top of your heart’s voice that the process is not fair, that your children are waiting far away from you, and you cannot handle another day, He beckons you to lay it all down. He already knows what we stand in need of every single day.

Verses of the Day:

I say: The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. Lamentations 3:24-25 (HCSB)

Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time. Hebrews 4:16 (HCSB)
